Sweet Snack Products 2013

Snack Girl receives a package a day at her house sent from businesses around the USA.

My kids LOVE opening the boxes because you never know what you might find. This week, I received an orange toaster (no, I am not making this up). The week before, I got a football helmet stuffed with snacks.

I try food that I think you guys would like because it is fun and I just might find something useful.

The KIND bars fit the bill. They have come out with some new bars that not only taste good, they have only 5 grams of sugar! My favorite was the dark chocolate cinnamon pecan.

Here is the nutritional information:

200 calories, 13 g fat, 3.5 g saturated fat, 16 g carbohydrates, 5.0 g sugar, 5.0 g protein, 7.0 g fiber, 20 mg sodium, 5 PointsPlus

This bar would make a great breakfast on the run (it passes my healthy breakfast test). It is a little too big for a snack, so try to eat half of it and save the rest of it for another day.

Check them out here: KIND Healthy Snacks or at Amazon.com below.

When can you eat five cookies for 120 calories? Never, I would say. Except that HannahMax Baking came up with something called a “cookie chip”.

These are made with REAL ingredients and taste delicious. I loved their texture and how I didn’t feel bad after inhaling five of them. Then, I did have to give the bag to my husband to hide from me :)

Five cookie chips:

120 calories, 6.0 g fat, 3.5 g saturated fat, 17 g carbohydrates, 12 g sugar, 1 g protein, 0 g fiber, 0 mg sodium, 3 PointsPlus

They come in chocolate chip, sea salted peanut butter, cinnamon sugar, and sugar cookie varieties.

Buy them here: HannahMax Store

Carol Bard, small business owner and baker, has created a cookie for just 10 calories each! Made with almonds, flour, egg whites, sugar, and vanilla, these are a great solution for people who love cookies but want to eat less of them.

BettaSnax have the texture of biscotti but are thin like a chip. I liked dunking them in my afternoon coffee.

You can buy them at Amazon.com below or from BettaSnax

Imagine raisins infused with 100% Hawaiian Kona Coffee. I know, it is hard to do, but these blew my mind. I am a coffee drinker (as I have mentioned many times) and a handful of these were sensational.

I don’t know how Linda Greigo, owner of JavaRaiz came up with them. Did she start swirling raisins in her morning coffee? But, I am glad she did.

These are very sweet because of the raisins and you have to watch your portion size, but for a treat these are much healthier than most snacks out there.

Buy them at JavaRaiz.

I love Kind Bars...although I eat them for a snack. They would not be enough of a breakfast for me.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE their Dark Chocolate Cherry Cashew +antioxidants bar. For me this is a good bar to eat before a workout or if I have a long commute home and I don't want to be starving when I walk in the door. Totally worth 5PP !!

I love Kind bars, have to try the dark choc. cinnamon pecan one. Also did not know that they came in mini as one reader mentioned. Will look for those as sometimes I only eat half and a time.

Sue on February 21, 2013

Just search on Amazon for the box of minis, has 4 varieties in it.

Can you explain further the "fun" process of receiving free items in the mail?

I have been wondering about the KIND bars and how they taste. Very glad to see they pass the test now I can try them out.

I recently discovered the KIND bars after trying a few healthier bars for my teen son's run-out-the-door breakfast. He said they were OK, but I LOVED the Apricot Almond. At 5 WW PointsPlus and a higher price than most bars, it's not something I'd eat all the time, but I did buy more. Lisa, I will have to try the dark choc cinnamon pecan! The raisins also sound intriguing...

Add me to the LOVE list. My daughter always has a chocolate peanut butter one in her bag in case she's hungry when out.... it can be difficult to eat gluten free on the fly and they are delicious! The taste doesn't make you feel as if you're compromising or trying to act like a hipster ;)

Ok snack girl I have an idea. After reading your remake of cookie dough the other day I thought what about remaking my favorite desert cannoli. Maybe make a dip out of it too and in place of the fried shell dip these 10 cal biscotti bites.

For those near a Kroger, mine has KIND bars on sale for a buck! I picked up 30 of them. I pack for travel. Airports sell them for $2-3 a bar! So glad it made the good list.

The Cookie Chips remind me of Sheila G's Brownie Brittle. Thin and crispy, but tastes just like a brownie and has some chocolate chips in it. Its addicting! Not sure if SG would consider it healthy though??

Kristine on February 21, 2013

an orange toaster? as in an orange-colored toaster, or a toaster that toasts oranges?

pdxfoodmama on February 21, 2013

Kind Bars are quite good .. but I can't eat too many nuts.

The cookies look good too, but .. cookies in the house are a disaster for me. I start with say, three .. then I think Oh, maybe just three more ..and that happens until the bag is empty.

Monica.

I love the KIND bars, they are perfect. The Sea Salt Dark Chocolate are my favorite go to snack, I always have on in my bag for an emergency.

Jacky on February 21, 2013

I'm wild about those cookie chips too, Lisa! So glad you discovered them.
