A Fruit Dip To Keep Life Interesting

Snack Girl has long advocated for an apple and peanut butter for a perfect snack. Basically, you got your fruit with a another whole food (peanuts) just blended up. Super yum!
Sadly, this snack can get a bit dull. Even Snack Girl herself gets a bit sick of apples and peanut butter.
What would happen if you added yogurt to your peanut butter? Or more exactly, peanut butter to yogurt? Would the awesomeness just blow your mind?
I have got to tell you that I added a mere teaspoon of all natural peanut butter to 2 ounces of Vanilla Greek Non-fat yogurt and my mind was blown. Actually, it was the tablespoon of PB2 added to the yogurt that was other worldly.
PB2 is powdered peanut butter and has a fraction of the calories of regular peanut butter - see here: Peanut Butter Lovers: A 45 Calorie Solution That Will Save Your Waistline . You get the peanut butter flavor without the calories - and I actually liked it BETTER than the addition of regular old peanut butter.
I found a Dannon Oikos non-fat vanilla greek yogurt in the yogurt section. Chobani also has a vanilla option -but FAGE did not.
You take about half of the yogurt out into a bowl, mix it with your choice of peanut butter, and spread it on your apple. My kids, of course, prefer to dip.
The vanilla and peanut butter combo is creamy, nutty, and just great with the CRUNCH of a fresh apple. Wow!
Another option for a yogurt fruit dip is to just add honey to plain greek yogurt. Taste it until you get the right sweetness and you will love how it tastes on apples, strawberries, pineapple, etc.
For those on Weight Watchers, if you can just divide this in 1/2 (2.5 PointsPlus) - you will still have a satisfying snack.

Love the ideas that you come up with. I have dipped my apple slices in PB2, but found it did not stick to well, so will give this a try. Will add a dash of cinnamon too.

A Weight Watchers recipe passed around on the boards...
1/2 cup of fat free greek yogurt
1 tsp or tbsp (to taste) of cocoa powder
1 tbsp of peanut butter or more of PB2 if that is your choice
1 tbsp honeyUse as a fruit dip.... I make a bowl of this every week and eat it with an apple or two a day. I am addicted... it's great... WW Points are 2 to 4 depending on how much you use of what.

I love PB2, I make a peanut butter paste using:
1 scoop protein powder
1 to 2 tbsp cocoa powder
1 to 2 tsp of PB2
Add water and mix to desired thickness.

I love PB2 in yogurt! I always add it in and add a pinch of cinnamon and it kicks it up another level!

I love simplicity! I did want to mention that 2 oz is 1/4 cup. I don't know how to measure out 2 oz any other way.

I have been planning to try PB2 with yogurt for a while now. I'm on a VLCD through my doctor's office so I have to wait a few more weeks but I had asked a reviewer of the product on Amazon about the combination as a dip. I LOVE PB and apples; I want to find a healthier way to enjoy it. Thanks!

When you mention portions for PB2 are you referring to the powder itself or it reconstituted?

Never heard of PB2! Will have to check it out. But our household loves peanut butter

I too love peanut butter and apples! While I don't think I could ever get sick of it, I like where you're going with the yogurt and honey! I'm in! Thanks for the idea!

YUMMY indeed! That's funny you would mention peanut butter because my son just told me to try peanut butter in my steel cut oats for more protein. Now I can try the PB2 instead! Thanks.

Just wanted to add that the PB2 is really yummy alone or on apples when you add it to sugar free coolwhip- I add a couple of tablespoons to the whole container and keep it in fridge when I need my peanut butter fix!!

I sometimes find greek yogurt too tangy for my taste, so I thought that adding peanut butter was a great idea to balance it out a bit. Well, I just enjoyed this dip with an apple, but on first taste felt something was missing. Then I added a little cinnamon - perfect!
Carrie @ Season It Already! on March 11, 2013
Oikos has a 2% honey yogurt and also a 0% coconut one that is really yummy and would work as well

Ok, this was like - wow, good! When I mixed it together this AM, I thought .. meh, it's ok. I think by my snack time at 3pm, the flavors melded together and YUM! I used the powdered PB & reg Greek yogurt as I really just don't like non-fat. Anyway,.. man, this was so good! Such a nice change from regular peanut butter.

@Rochelle - try Kefir. It's a yogurt smoothie but is 99.9% lactose free. It has a ton of probiotics and protein and would make a good substitute for greek yogurt. It might be a little more runny but a good option nonetheless.
