Top Healthy Beach Snacks

Aaaah, the beach…..Hopefully, you have a beach near you that helps you cool off.

Top Beach Snacks

Near my house, we have a pond with a lifeguard and it saves us on hot summer days. One of the key features of this beach for my children is the “Snack Shack” which sells kale, carrots, cucumber slices…..zzzzzz…..

I must have been dreaming :)

You guys know what is at the Snack Shack! Doritos, Coke, Hot Dogs, Twizzlers, etc.

I don’t actually think that having a treat from the Snack Shack is a terrible thing. There is one person in the group who is studiously trying to avoid the frozen Snickers bars and that would be ME.

How do I avoid the Snack Shack? First, I have a groovy picnic basket/cooler which is ready to go. The key for me is to have a cold drink so I fill a water bottle with ice cubes.

I pack my basket with some cooler ice and fruit. Slices of watermelon, apples, peaches, and cantaloupe are in plastic containers and ready to eat. I also pack frozen grapes to keep everything cool and they are delicious to munch on.

The key for me is to keep everything cold so I won’t be tempted to buy something cold.

Here are some more ideas for the beach:

  8. Grab your favorite flavored yogurt and freeze it for a wonderful replacement for the larger serving size of frozen yogurt.

What do you bring to the beach? Please share.

If it's a lakeside day (not too far from our house) I take snacks like fresh cherries, grapes, long slices of cantaloupe in plastic containers; some quality salty crackers. For a long day at the ocean, it's that plus subs (wheat rolls, sliced turkey and ham) and a container of sliced red onion, sliced ripe tomatoes and lots of shreds of fresh basil. Add this to the rolls and bread just before eating; delish and not soggy. Chunks of cold watermelon, sliced 'pickling cucumbers' and a sleeve of graham crackers. And money for ice cream cones for the ride home!

I started reading your book last night!!!! Today's post was perfect, as we are headed to a lake with a public "beach" area tomorrow. We usually pack PB & honey sandwiches, so we don't have to worry so much about keeping lunch meat cool. We also always carry fruit and granola bars. I think I'll make a pasta salad today and pack it in tiny containers for a side with our lunch...my daughter loves pasta salad, and she's my snacker!!!

Just in time for the 4th of July, I plan on whipping up some of these snacks for the fire works! Thanks for sharing.

We're getting together with family on the Fourth, and I plan to make the refrigerator pickled carrots from the book and some Brussels sprouts cole slaw to bring with us.
