Panera Encourages Healthy Eating With “Eat Smarts” Game

What if you could learn about eating well through a video game? My favorite video game already includes eating.
This game features a little yellow circle guy eating dots while ghosts chase him. Guesses?
The folks at Panera Bread came up with a series of smarter games than Pac-man. These games teach about nutrition and how to make smart food choices.
There are 15 challenges on Panera Eat Smarts and if you finish all of them by August 29th, 2012, you are entered to with a Sandals Resorts trip for two.
I finished my 15 challenges after some coaching from my 6 year old (he is great with matching). My favorite games are:
- Discover Your Kitchen – there are a bunch of good kitchen tips here, for example, “Yogurt and applesauce can serve as fat substitutes in your favorite baked goods. But, you shouldn’t replace more than half the amount of fat in the original recipe to keep great flavor and texture.”
- Serving Size Wise – this game emphasizes the correct serving sizes of common foods such as serving size of pasta should look like a tennis ball.
- Get Snack Savvy – Of course, I am going to like this one! It asks you series of questions such as “Which dairy food offers more calcium per one cup serving – milk or yogurt? Answer: yogurt”
Another fun one is the “Rate Your Plate” challenge, players drag food items onto a plate to create a balanced meal and then evaluate based on USDA’s MyPlate.
Try the Panera Eat Smarts challenges for tips to help you make smarter decisions about the food you at Panera Bread bakery-cafes – and at home.
