Instead of Cookies, Bake Ornamints

December 22, 2015   6 Comments

Do you know how the holiday cookie time is all about butter?

Candy Ornaments

We ran out of butter on Sunday and maybe that was a good thing! These "ornaments" are a fun alternative. You get to make a “cookie” and you can hang it on your tree if you want.

I also like these because they feature one ingredient (mints) and I am not tempted to inhale mints as fast as I eat Christmas cookies. I need to shout out to Reynolds parchment paper for sending me the idea and the images. This really is as easy at looks.

You can make these with other hard candies as well if you want to have some other colors and shapes. If you want to put these on your tree, stab the ornament with a straw after you bake them to create a hole for a ribbon.

Holiday Ornamint Recipe

5.0 from 1 review
  1. Line cookie sheet with Reynolds® Parchment Paper
  2. Spray oven-safe, metal cookie cutters with non-stick cooking spray, then place on a cookie baking sheet. Fill each cookie cutter with peppermint candies. Break candies into pieces to fill in smaller areas.
  3. Bake in oven at 350 degrees F for 3–9 minutes until candies melt into cookie cutter shape.
  4. Remove from oven and let candy harden. Then stretch cookie cutter to remove candy “ornamint”.

Many years ago I made ornaments using TWO ingredients: equal parts applesauce and cinnamon. Used cookie cutters to shape, a straw to punch hole for string. They smell great! Found one I hung by heating vent in my office - still good, in one piece and no mold! They are great in cars too.

These are so stinkin' cute! What a super cool idea, and so different! Thanks for sharing...

Oh this is cool. I just did doughnut ornaments out of dough. I'll try this next year.Do you spray it with clear paint to keep bugs and stuff off of it?

Robbi, Yes, I remember making one of those too when I was like 6. I'm 34 now, but I remember making one.

How do you make the hole for the ribbon? Won't it shatter after baking?

Thank you for this post. This is awesome! Although I wish I could rival Martha Stewart, in real life I'm not that crafty but this is a "craft" even I can handle. And its easy & quick enough that my daughter & I will be doing tomorrow. Very easy, no special skills required, even easy cleanup..I love it! Plus the ornamints are pretty enough to gift. Thank you again. Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays!

Brooke, it tells how in the top part where she describes what this is. She says, "If you want to put these on your tree, stab the ornament with a straw after you bake them to create a hole for a ribbon." I assume you do this right after you take them out of the oven before it hardens. I hope this helps you. Merry Christmas!
