The Healthiest Cracker On The Planet

May 7, 2010   17 Comments

How would you like a cracker that just oozes health? A cracker that makes you think, "Hey, this is really good for me!!"

Mary's Gone Crackers

Mary's Gone Crackers are truly a revelation. They have absolutely nothing in them (if you read their packaging):

  • Wheat-Free
  • Gluten-Fee
  • No added oils or fats
  • No pesticides (organic)
  • non-GMO
  • Vegan

Are they nuts? Who is going to eat this?

Well, it turns out that there are people who are allergic to wheat and gluten that still love crackers. The founder of Mary's Gone Crackers, Mary, had a problem:

In 1994, I discovered that my lifelong battle with digestive pain and fatigue had been caused by an inability to digest gluten-a protein found in wheat, barley, rye and most oats. Once I eliminated those grains from my diet, the symptoms I had struggled with disappeared.

But, then, what could she eat? The major staple of the United States is bread! So, she developed her own line of crackers. The ingredients include whole grain brown rice, quinoa, sesame seeds, flax seeds, and other all-natural flavoring agents.

They are super crunchy like Doctor Kracker and unlike Ritz Crackers. When I first tried them, I didn't like them at all and thought that they tasted like bird seed (not that I have tried bird seed). But the smart people at Mary's Gone sent me an entire case.

As I got used to them, I started to really enjoy their nutty taste (without any nuts). These crackers are just a bunch of good stuff mush together and baked without added sugar (but there is added salt).

I noticed that after you eat about 10 of them, you aren't hungry any more. This is probably due to the fact that you REALLY have to chew these babies. You definitely know you are eating something when you eat a Mary's Gone cracker.

So, give them a try. This is their store locator: Mary's Gone Crackers Store Locator and it seems they are at Whole Foods and other health stores. They were not at my local Stop-n-Shop.

You can also buy them at Amazon. You have to commit to 12 boxes, so you might want to make sure you like them first. But, the price is comparable to other premium crackers when you buy them online.

I have been eating Mary's crackers for a few years now. they are the best and healthiest cracker on the market. My favorite are the cracked pepper. Yum Yum!

These ARE the best crackers on the planet; and I posted about them on your website a few months ago. I can get them at my local Krogers.

I've been making my own crackers lately. WAAAAY cheaper than store-bought, and I know exactly what's in them.

Hands down my fave crackers. You simply cannot find a crunch like that anywhere else, IMHO. Last time I was at Costco they had the uber-large family box of these. They were much cheaper than the prices at Whole Paycheck. SCORE!!!

I'm doing a happy dance right now! I love these crackers, and I'm so happy to hear that they're really good for me too!

Those sound good! I'm gonna look for them at Whole Foods. Your blog inspired me to ditch Kashi crackers in favor of triscuits, but I realized that I really don't like triscuits very much and I'm only halfway through the box!

Lanette - great idea - Sagan did a post for me on DIY crackers - check it out here:

You are speakin' my language! I found these soon after I went gluten-free, and yes, they're different than most crackers, but I LOVE them. They're filling, and crunchy, and really tasty. I want to figure out how to score a bunch like you did! LOL

Here is another healthy and gluten snack - I guess you'd call them a cracker substitute. They come plain or with garlic. Very good!

FYI - for those who are celiac, Sami's Bakery is not considered gluten free. At least it wasn't two years ago. Cross contamination issues. Please do your homework about them before ordering if you are celiac.

I must amend my rave review I posted here yesterday after shearing off an entire cusp of a molar while eating the "Sticks". They are very tasty-- yes, and very crunchy. But be careful chewing those seeds! I now have a $1000.00 dental debt to repair the damage sustained while eating this snack :-(

Hi Lisa

I like your blog - I'll be coming back. I definitely want to taste this cracker. Sounds like it would be right up my alley! Keep up the great work!

Cheryl

I LOVE Mary's! Especially when I use Fage as a dip.

Unless you have the disease(s) that prevent your body from being able to use wheat and/or gluten, you really shouldn't eat these. Triscuits are probably a better choice for people that CAN digest wheat and gluten.

Why in the world would someone who is NOT celiac not be able to digest these great crackers????

GREAT WITH TUNA, TRY SOME TIME!

When i first tried these i wasn’t a huge fan, but recently i’ve tried them again and LOVE! they’re really perfect as a snack if you add different toppings like fruits sauces/dips/spreads or veggies. one of my favorite ways to eat them is with goat cheese. it’s AMAZINGG. they also have some topping suggestions on the side of the box.
