For The Love Of Apples

The orchards here in Western Massachusetts are laden with apples. It is a dreamy time of year to be in New England.

Healthy Apple Snack Recipes

Even if you live in West Palm Beach, it is time to eat some apples. I'm sure the Sunshine State is importing some fresh apples for baby boomer consumption.

My favorite way to eat an apple is just with a little peanut butter (see: How To Choose Healthy Peanut Butter).

My kids LOVE to use an apple slicer so they get these perfectly shaped apple pieces - and they made their own snack!

Here on Snack Girl, I have featured a bunch of apple based snacks to keep you from getting bored with apples. My personal favorite is the "Naked Pie" because I don't have to make a pastry crust to create an apple pie! You also avoid the 8 tablespoons of butter in the crust.

I hear that having an apple slicer, peeler, corer is a great way to process apples. I don't own one, yet, but with so many apple orchards close by - I may have to get one to start cranking out the apple treats.

Here are some Snack Girl apple favorites - all are HEALTHY and fun ways to serve apples:

Do you have a favorite way to cook and/or present fall apples?

Love the apple round up!!

I'm eating more apples to loose weight!

I really love the sour apples. I also have a great recipe for apple turnovers on my website - my husband ate them all up!

They're in season around here, and they are really good! I have an orchard right up the road.

I love my apple slicer/corer! I see apple butter in your future! lol Also--homemade apple sauce is great!

Love that apple peeler/corer/slicer. Mine just died so i need to get a new one. IF you get one, take my advice and look for one that will peel & core without slicing just in case you want to do that sometime (baked apples and whatnot or if you want large slices vs. the small rings it makes). I think the one Pampered Chef sells has the option to not slice as it peels and cores. Most do all 3 at the same time no matter what. Enjoy those apples!

for those without easy orchard access: be sure to buy ONLY organic apples. They are at the top of the list of pesticide-laden produce.

i need to go buy some apples...the last time i went to farmer's market, it was still peaches over her in northern CA LOL!

but yeah one of my ex housemates got me addicted to eating apples (I used to hate it). I learned that cutting apple up into slices (even without an apple corer/slicer) makes it so much easier to eat. I think i hated apples 'cause the hard peel/edge would scrape the corners of my mouth/lips when i try to eat/bite it. lol

but yeah, must get apples! this is one of those fruits that makes dieting actually easy for me...i'd get so lazy at night when i get home from work that i just cut up a couple of apples and have that for dinner ^^;;

I never used to like apples, and then I had surgery and EVERYBODY brought me apple pie. Now I'm on WW I eat an apple every day. Tried a new one this week - honey apples. They are wonderful. Will definitely try them again, however, my favorites are still Fuji and Gala, and sort of like Pink Lady, too. YUM!!!

we are eastern ny..next to western mass...and the apples are fabulous this year! canning apple pie filling, applesauce, apple butter, dehydrating apples, eating apples..(apple cider donuts!), apple cider, apple jack...yes, best thing about fall, helps to put out of mind the LOVELY weather headed our way.. :p

Fall colors are creeping in and Wisconsin Orchards are bursting.... love visiting decked out orchard stores with all their goodies! Great prelude to the holiday season and winter wonderland.

Thanks for the awesome recipes!! I LOVE apples:)

You should try pumpkin butter too :P

I have gotten kind of addicted to apples recently and eat several a day. I usually chop up a small granny smith and cook it in my oatmeal in the morning, love how it bulks up the bowl. I found a new favorite kind, SweeTango (yeah the weird spelling is their idea), that is astoundingly juicy, crisp, and flavorful. Really want to try baking them, might do that on this cold rainy day for dessert later.

Great article. Apples have become a daily snack for me and I have contributed to my 97 lb weight loss success. In addition, to having them as a snack I love to add them to my salads. One of my favorite quick lunch meals is to add apples, almonds, and albacore tuna over a bed of fresh spinach. Top that off with little olive oil and balsamic vinegar and that is very tasty healthy meal.

I like applies in coleslaw. I use a bag of the coleslaw mix with carrots, cut up apples in small chunks. I make a dressing out of 1 cup of low-fat or fat-free mayonnaise, 1/4 cup cider vinegar, and 1/4 cup Splenda. Took it to a church meal. They loved it and took home the leftovers!!!

I love this article. Apples and Peanut Butter is my favorite snack! It's the best!
