Save them for celebrations

February 2, 2009

Valentine's day is one of my favorite holidays because I usually receive a box of chocolates. There is something so luxurious about the box, little wrappers, smell and shiny brown morsels inside.

Chocolates

A single chocolate can be 160 calories and can contain 6 grams of fat, which is truly an indulgence for something so small. Of course, there are so many different types of chocolates and fillings it is hard to pin down exactly how many calories your chocolate contains.

Is eating a chocolate good for you? Well, most people don't realize that chocolate is made with cocoa from (you guessed it) plants! While there is lots of processing involved to make chocolate, if it is done correctly and the chocolate is dark, it can be good for your heart. Check out Dark Chocolate.

The same compounds in plants that make fruits and vegetables healthy, also make chocolate healthy. You just need to avoid milk chocolate, or other light colored chocolate - and get used to the more bitter flavored dark chocolates. Then, you can have a high calorie treat that is also nutritious!

Don't like chocolate? Try Almonds, coffee, or Microwave Popcorn
