Brownies Made in A Blender With Beans (Really!)

February 3, 2015   23 Comments

Sometimes you hear a crazy idea and you simply must try it.

Blender Brownies

I have tried all sorts of things for this website that have not worked. I will not enumerate the number of bad ideas I have tried in the search for healthy, delicious food. (except for this one recipe that I made with avocado and chocolate that was awful)

Today, I will talk about making brownies with black beans which sounds crazy. I first attempted this with pre-packaged brownie mix – see Try Adding This To Your Brownie Mix and people loved it.

When I saw a take on this recipe that uses a BLENDER, I knew it was for me. Anytime I can use my blender instead of a mixer, I will do it. I have a $50 blender that was given to me 10 years ago and that thing can mix up a storm.

After making these, I asked my husband to try them (and didn’t tell him about the beans). He said, “These aren’t gourmet brownies but I really like them.”

I think he was talking about those thick, chewy, dark chocolate brownies that alter your life expectancy.

These are not the real thing, but they are moist, chocolately, and have many fewer calories and saturated fat than their gourmet counterparts. They are still a treat.

Do something crazy! Give them a try.

Have you tried black beans in brownies?

Try Adding This To Your Brownie Mix

I bet you are wondering what “this” is - and it is a natural ingredient from a plant. Not the plant most of you are thinking of because this is a family website....

I love when you post recipes like this where I can use whatever it is that I have in my pantry!

I've made these before and really like them too.

I haven't tried bean brownies, but I've made Snack-Girl's Chocolate Chip Butter Cake with 1/3 cup high quality baking cocoa powder (unsweetened) and have been complimented on my "brownies!" I'm sure I'll be giving these a try. Thanks, Lisa!

I found this idea in the 70's . . . If you like If you like BLT's try cooking slices of provolone till browned on both side . press gently between paper towel and let cool. The slices will be crisp and on a BLT, tastes like bacon. (a non-stick pan works best)

I've tried black bean brownies in the past and they are delish! Can't wait to try them in a blender!

I can't even imagine! I will HAVE to try these!

I made these and tried them out on my husband (without telling him they were made with black beans, of course). He said he liked them better than my regular (high fat/calorie) brownies. Go figure! I also make cupcakes with boxed chocolate cake mix and pumpkin. He loves those, as well. It's the only way I can sneak some vegetables into his diet!

I learned a similar recipe, from a girl on Youtube (Lean Secrets, Brenda Leigh Turner)she makes Lean brownies. And instead of the backing powder etc. You use your favorite chocolate flavored protein powder and in place of canola oil it's coconut oil. When I have a piece I have some berries and Cacao nibs. Really good, my hubby isn't a huge fan, but if he's peckish then he'll eat it.

I don't know if this is a silly question or not, but I am about to make these brownies and I was wondering if I could use a food processor instead of a blender?

Jessica, I make them with a food processor, as I don't have a blender. They turn out perfectly.

I have made these in the past and was definitely impressed. They were delicious!

I've made a similar recipe using white beans and peanut butter along with the chocolate chips for a "blondie" version.

These are fabulous and work well for those who must avoid gluten and nuts. I promise this is not due to vanity, but to keep myself in one piece. Thank you for a wonderful recipe!

Is there a difference if regular eggs are used (as opposed to large)?

Made these today, different but quite good! My 5 yo loved them. Makes me want to experiment with using black beans in different ways. Thanks!

I tried these yesterday and they were so good!! My family and I loved them (I did not tell them about the beans). The chocolate chips on top are a nice touch. I will definitely make these again!

Haven't tried these yet but I'm gonna! I put this thru recipe building w/12 servings. I am going to use a 12 muffin pan--I hate trying to cut brownies. It's the same WW points. I may use stevia instead of sugar. That brings this down to 2 points.

Made these tonight to go with our Valentine dinner, made some swaps: egg whites for the eggs, and used low sodium black beans. They were delicious, so moist and the best GF brownies I've ever had!!

Couldn't you use truvia and save on some calories?

I've used Splenda and they've turned out very well.
