Avoid The Snack Shack With These Healthy Snacks For The Beach

Aaaah, the beach…..Hopefully, you have a beach near you that helps you cool off.

Top Ten Beach Snacks

Near my house, we have a pond with a lifeguard and it saves us on hot summer days. One of the key features of this beach for my children is the “Snack Shack” which sells kale, carrots, cucumber slices…..zzzzzz…..

I must have been dreaming :)

You guys know what is at the Snack Shack! Doritos, Coke, Hot Dogs, Twizzlers, etc.

I don’t actually think that having a treat from the Snack Shack is a terrible thing. There is one person in the group who is studiously trying to avoid the frozen Snickers bars and that would be ME.

How do I avoid the Snack Shack? First, I have a groovy picnic basket/cooler which is ready to go. The key for me is to have a cold drink so I fill a water bottle with ice cubes.

I pack my basket with some cooler ice and fruit. Slices of watermelon, grapes, cherries, apples, peaches, and cantaloupe are in plastic containers and ready to eat. Hey, its summer, baby! Don’t hold back, buy it all!

The key for me is to keep everything cold so I won’t be tempted to buy something cold.

Thanks for the tips. Loved the Watermelon and Cheese ones. :D

I, too, have a hard time passing up Snickers Ice Cream bars. I did have one on vacation last week - but ONLY one. ;-)

I love the idea of having cold fresh fruits with you. I love them that way! And I can't get enough fruit in the summer.

Cheers~

I'd also recommend bringing something that is a "treat" like a small dark chocolate bar, homemade goodie, etc. Sometimes it's just not fun to watch everyone around you eating all those snacks while all you've got is fruits and veggies.

If sandwiches are on the beach menu, I will put the turkey or ham, cheese slices and bread together, and have a container of fresh basil, sliced garden-ripe tomatoes and thinly sliced red onion. Put a plastic fork in the container, and when lunch time comes add these wet ingredients to the meat and bread -- fresh and delicious and not soggy! Also, I was surprised to learn that some don't know that the garden cucumbers labled "pickling cukes" make the BEST crisp cucumbers for picnicing. Just wash and quarter. You don't need to peel them.

I agree with Christina. The thing that sucks about unhealthy snacking around you, is that temptation is EVERYWHERE. It's hard to be satisfied with carrot sticks when your friends are eating chips. But healthier options or little treats make it easier

Awesome snacks! Love them ideas. Great tips everyone!
